Shop: New York (Well Not All of It)

We wrapped up our trip to New York on the life side, but here are all the gory shopping details from our Sunday in Soho. Contain your excitement.

We stopped into CB2 since we don’t have any in Texas (cue the sad music). This was the first time I’d actually been in a store, but their $4.95 flat rate shipping allowed me to score some pretty sweet clearance here.

These set of 4 birch boxes are so beautiful. They look amazing stacked but would look great as a single box grouped for a vignette too. The tops are very flexible and thin. The set is $30, but you could break it up to stretch that money. You could keep 1 for yourself and give the other 3 away as gifts. Fill them with a small collection of things or something handmade. (Yes I’m already thinking about how to incorporate purchases with handmade gifts to stick to my goals.)

Of course CB2 is the master of modern quirk. These gold pig bookends make me smile and want to style a bookshelf all at the same time. They are adorable and add a touch of whimsey. Their THE END bookend is another unique bookshelf option.

Next stop (actually I don’t remember what order we shopped these places but pretend with me) Dwell Studio. Note the gorgeous color of the door.

We were first introduced to Dwell when we found Ramona’s bedding, so it seems fitting to start in the kid section. Of course Dwell has some new crib bedding sets that are the exact mix of pattern and simplicity. The cute pillows are a bonus as well. The animal head collection and wallpaper make for the perfect nursery backdrop.

I love this bed. The lines. The fabric. The color. It’s so simple and completely cozy. Of course the simple bedding and graphic pillows send it over the top. I have an aversion to making the bed, so I may just be over excited about how beautiful beds can be. I don’t think so. I mean look at this bed. Beautiful.

Thanks to Land of Nod‘s pinterest I found out they had a pop up shop. I told Nick that was my only must for the trip. (Is that weird?) It was a nice break for Ramona to get out and play too.

I won’t go into huge details about the amazing toy selection (go look online), but look at how beautiful this holiday display is. The wood sticks in the back ground. The bunting. The bows and garland. The stockings were burlap with huge bows. I think I might have to add that feature to ours for next Christmas.

You can see the raspberry Jenny Lind bed on the right. Spoiler alert that is the look we are going for in Ramona’s big girl room. Hopefully she will be out of her crib before she turns 10.

Our most productive stop was Muji. It wasn’t a planned stop. We were walking along minding our business when Nick noticed it. He remembered Morgan’s post about her wonderful duvet. Since it was Brick House approved, we had to go.

We didn’t take any pictures of the inside. I guess we were too busy gathering our purchases. Here’s what we bought:

4 Reusable bags – $1 a piece was just too good to pass up. I painted a heart on 2 of them and put some slippers in it for a Christmas present. I intend to do something like that again.

5 notebooks – simple ruled notebooks because you can’t have enough

Pink Pen – I’m showing my inner teacher here with some supply hoarding. It is one of those pens that you convince yourself you have to find before you can write anything down. Jordan agrees.

Queen Fitted Sheet & Pillow Cases – I cannot tell you how insanely comfortable these sheets are. They are soft and warm without being clingy. I love jersey sheets, but I cannot use them. They are too stretchy and get too hot. These are soft and comfortable like jersey but hold their shape. Substantial and essential.

2 City in a Bags – A miniture wooden New York city scape. Both were given as Christmas presents. Ramona loves to construct New York. Of course it’s buildings stacked up to make the “big lady” much taller than anything. These are incredible souvenirs for anyone especially kids…just not small ones the car pieces are very small.

Muji is now a must stop for us when we go to New York. It’s reasonably priced, and I could go for more of those sheets. Maybe a duvet next time? Oh Nick bought a shirt there too. A basic white oxford which he loves. Seriously the place has everything.

  1. Uhhhh can we just talk about how much I want that dinosaur head?! I WANTS HIM. I also totally agree on the jersey sheet thing. Especially sleeping with 3 dogs and a husband if I wear pajamas that are too baggy I’ll get laid on and trapped forever. I don’t need my sheets adding to that mess. Looks like you guys had fun! I’ve never been to NYC, would love to save up a jillion dollars and go crazy. Maybe I should start dressing terribly for What Not to Wear shows up…

    • Nick says:

You’d definitely need at least 2 jillion dollars to go crazy in NYC. Damn is that city expensive. Muji was fairly reasonably priced, the rest was just window shopping / inspiration.

    • Amber says:

Haha do it! I will send in the “plea” for help. I had never been to NYC until last year. It’s crazy expensive, but the shopping and food are amazing. Don’t get me wrong we have great shopping in Dallas, but there is literally everything in New York. I’ll take my low cost of living and large living space in Texas though and just travel!

  2. What a fantastic trip. I love CB2. Did you see they did a line with the Novogratzes too. We don’t have a CB2 here either. I got to go to one on a trip to Santa Monica last spring. It was AWESOME.

Love the Muji store. I’ll have to look into that more.

The egg chairs are awesome!! Ramona needs a doll house now 😉

    • Amber says:

I think we saw the table and chair from the Novogratz’s line, but we weren’t really paying attention the big pieces. Maybe next trip I’ll be more focused! It was a rainy NY day, and I was so cold. I can use that as my excuse right?

Muji is amazing. Go buy sheets now for B’s room remodel!

Ramona desperately needs a doll house. The plan was to do that as my Dare to DIY give challenge. It would have taken me forever to get it finished, so I thought maybe I’ll start collecting and purchasing things now to be better prepared for next year.

  3. Ohhhh I’m so jealous of your trip! My boyfriend bought me those gold piggie bookends from CB2 for Christmas and they are AMAZING! So heavy and so cute – you definitely should get a pair if you haven’t already :)

Can’t wait to see Ramona’s big girl room! I’m already jealous of her new bed…

    • Amber says:

I saw them on your gift round up! I’m glad you got some! I’m sure they are already in a completely styled place, so we can all be jealous. Who knows when Ramona will get a big girl room, but I am excited to see it too. 😉

  4. Janet says:

Kaylee has the raspberry Jenny Lind bed! You should ask Jennifer to post a picture of it on Facebook (or I can…I took one yesterday).

    • Amber says:

AH!! Really! Now Jennifer is just really making me look bad. Ramona is a whole year and 3 months older than Kaylee. Where did y’all get it?

      • Janet says:

She ordered it from Land of Nod a month or so ago. Kaylee’s been sleeping in it really well since the addition of a safety rail, so they were able to take her crib down in time for her birthday party. She’s still in a crib at my house, but I’ve caught her trying to hoist one leg over the rail a couple of times. I’m thinking of getting this toddler bed http://www.hayneedle.com/sale/theorbellecontemporarysolidwoodtoddlerbedcherry.cfm (darn, it was $30 less last month!).

        • Amber says:

Way to go Jennifer!! I really want the Jenny Lind, but I have this unrealistic vision that I’ll find one for $10 and just paint it! The problem is I’m not all that active in my search. I might just have to bite the bullet and order her one!

Cute bed! I wonder if it will drop back down in price. I’ll cross my fingers for you!

  5. Rachel says:

Pretty, pretty, oh, and more pretty. I would love to take a stroll through those stores! I’d have to have my husband stand outside with my wallet, though. Sometimes it’s easier that way – I tend to want to buy the pretty things I see in the pretty stores. It’s a possible problem, but I’m in no hurry to fix it.

    • Amber says:

We were actually pretty good the whole trip about not shopping. Of course it is New York, so it’s pricey regardless. Everything we got a Muji was $150, and that was our only purchase from the 4 stops. I did forget to add Purl Bee in there where I bought some Liberty of London fabric. I guess I have no choice but to go back to NY and blog about the Purl. Darn!
