Building: Let’s talk lighting

So during the whole building process we’ve been killing ourselves looking at every light source we can. Today I’m putting together some moodboards of the fixtures we’ve been looking at. We learned during the process that we both kind of geek out over lighting.

First up are the Pendant options. These are the fixtures we’re looking at for over the island as well as handing above the vanities in the master and Ramona’s room.

Next up are the chandeliers. These are the guys we have been considering for the dining as well as above the bathtub. Also, we’ve been playing with the idea of a chandelier on Ramona’s vanity as well.

Lastly, the wall-mount lights. These are the fixtures we are looking at for bathrooms, hallways, etc.

So there you have it, our inspiration mood boards for the different light types in the new house. Some modern, some industrial, some classic. Kind of describes our overall design aesthetic.

What do you think? Any favorites? Do you have a favorite source for lighting that we should know about? Do let us know!

my votes are 1, 2, and 7 in that order! love the choices- this is going to be fun!

  2. You just blew me away with that selection. I love the large hicks pendant. It’s been my favorite for a long time but that Pythagoras pendant is just amazing too.

    • Nick says:

I would say that I’m more Pythagoras than Hicks, though Amber has been obsessed with the Hicks for a long time.

They’re both splurge pieces so you really have to love them to pull the trigger.

  3. Love the choices! I’m kind of drooling over pendant #1.

I want to thank you for listing that schoolhouse light. I kept finding expensive ones. Nate will thank you too, I’m sure. ;P

    • Nick says:

Amber is pretty much obsessed with that hicks pendant. I actually prefer the solid brass one.

Tell Nate I said, “you’re welcome dawg” and then give him a chest bump for me :)

  4. Love the Chandeliers, #5 is of course my girly favorite. Wall Mount #7 is amazing! #1 in the pendants is awesome too. How are you ever going to chose?!

    • Nick says:

I love pretty much all the fixtures I put up here honestly. Not sure we could make a bad choice. Maybe we should just flip a coin?

  5. Such rad lighting ideas. I had a love connection with light fixtures. I feel like it’s the jewelry to the house. I take my light fixtures very seriously. In fact, chandelier #5 is what we’ve been thinking about doing for baby Crowder’s room. It’s so juicy and good.

    • Nick says:

Awesome. We’ve been thinking about it over Ramona’s vanity. There’s also a cheaper one at PB teen that I almost included as well. You’ve probably seen it though, you know….cause you’re “The Kenz”

  6. Oh my word, I don’t know how you’ll choose. These type of decisions are the hardest for me.

The chandy #5 reminds me of the one they put in at Dream Book Design> Their dining room is awesome and midcentury and the chandelier is the perfect pop of something different.

    Good luck!

That’ Pottery Barn light is really cool. Probably a bit small for our dining table, but we’ve been thinking a lot about it in Ramona’s room or in the master bathroom above the tub. Not sure either would be a bad choice.

  7. I’m a fan of the number 5 pendant, chandeliers 1 and 2, and 4 and 5 in the wall-mount category.

We are lighting geeks as well. We bought the Clift Oversized Glass Pendant from Pottery Barn for our entry and it is one of my favorite things in the new place. :)

  9. I love love love 2 in that first selection! xo Kristin

  10. Ohhhh these are all some great ones. Lord knows there are some ugly fixtures out there, but not on these boards.

Favorite of each board for me is 9, 1, 4 :)

Visual Comfort and Arteriors have amazing accent lighting and task lighting. These are the two brands we will be using the most I think. Although Hudson Valley makes a pretty cool pendant (Pelham) that I want for the kitchen x 3.

    • Nick says:

Ha. I have a visual comfort catalog on my nightstand right now. We’re not going to end up using it after all, though we had quite a few pieces picked out and priced. But hey we all know who dominates in the $$$$ dept….. the answer is you guys :)

  12. Nichole S. says:

    P.s. love the hicks pendant.

  13. Love all of these picks. We have very similar styles!

  14. Love the idea of a chandelier on your daughter’s vanity. Great picks. I’m going to have to check out all these vendors now as we still need to buy a light for our sitting room, which is pitch black after 6pm.

  15. Nichole S. says:

Horchow just had the Hicks pendants 30% off!!!! Sadly, I did not purchase any. The slush fund is a little dried up at the moment…which leads me to the question…am I able to take out a seperate mortgage just for lighting? :)

    • Nick says:

We actually got the builder discount on the Hicks, but still crazy expensive. By going vintage on a lot, we were able to come way under budget and get some pretty unique pieces :)

  16. #1 in the pendant lights is calling my name…it’s amazing! great roundup of options, i think they would all look great.
