Icemageddon 2013 and some Newborn Talk

We are on day 3 of being iced in with the entire family – mom, dad, little brother and the 4 of us Wills. I’m not getting cabin fever yet. I’m more excited that it’s given me time to catch up on my blog reading aka my most favorite hobby.

I’ve also got some cleaning done(ish). I found Beckett’s hospital photos. I shared his newborns that we had taken when he was 12 days old, but these are ones taken at the hospital by Mom365.

These were taken on the hospital bed while we were all still wearing our bands and alarms. They do not let you take those things off until you are walking out. It’s serious business.

Look at how tiny Beckett’s head is in Nick’s hands. Plus those new squinty eyes that are taking in everything.

We put him in the outfit we took him home in. It was plan B since originally I packed a 0-3 month outfit from the Gap that was huge on him. Nick had to run out to Target and get this number in Newborn. It was still huge despite the fact Beckett was 8 lbs 2 oz – look at how much we rolled up his pants!

I was looking over these wondering how many people still get these photos in the hospital. They aren’t terribly expensive, but they aren’t super cheap either. We paid $130 for the digitals.

I feel like all of us have a picture just like the one above that is typically the first thing you see in your baby book. Even though these pictures aren’t ones we used on our newborn announcements, I felt like I had to get them. It seems like I’d be missing out if I didn’t.

There’s something about the red, splotchiness of a newborn that is so precious. You blink and that time is over. Literally it’s gone in days.

We didn’t take many pictures while we were at the hospital instead we used every second we were there to bond with Beckett. We knew once we headed home our time would be spent learning how to become a family of 4. I’m glad that although hospital photos are slightly hokey we got them anyway.

What do you think are hospital photos a thing of the past? Or are they just a classic tradition? Musing from icemageddon 2013.

I don’t know anything about hospital pictures, but I do know that Beckett has mad style! Happy ice days :)

Haha well he gets it from his daddy! You should have seen the original outfit actually I think it’s on instagram. Crazy stylish little.

  3. These are so sweet! I didn’t buy any of ours, but they weren’t this good. I was impressed this time around with how much more effort they put into it (I think it was the same company at our hospital) than last time I had a baby. Abe was not being especially cooperative, if I remember right.

Yeah they are definitely better than the ones we got 4 years earlier with Ramona. I’m sure they have to get better because there’s such a huge demand for quality newborn photos now with Pinterest and all the social media outlets to share photos. They aren’t bad pictures, but they are completely different from the newborn session we had.

    I love being snowed/iced in!
And the photos are adorable with the outfit. So much better than what I have of my kids!

It’s been a fun! Lots of baking and eating and general sloth like activities happening over here. I’m starting to think we might need to start a rationing system soon. We are getting low, can’t get out, and even if we could no grocery stores have any stock. The highways are literally parking lots of semi trucks. It’s crazy!

  5. What a cutie pie! I’d love to see a side by side photo of him and Ramona to compare!

I don’t have her digitals for some reason! Maybe they didn’t offer them. I have no clue. I think all her newborns are in storage, but I need to do that!

  6. Aww he is so adorable. I can totally see why you had to have those photos :) Love that outfit on him. I didn’t have B at a hospital, so no such photos were offered. And no fancy alarm bracelets either :) They do look snazzy :)

I did the same!! Ross looked at me like I was slightly crazy. Clearly I (or my dad or a number of close friends) could take better photos of him, and we did. But it wasn’t really about that. I felt like I needed that hospital shot. It was the same with soccer. My dad took some incredible photos of him playing, but I still bought the posed photo as well. It’s tradition. :)

I’m so glad I wrote this now because I feel totally justified if you got these pictures too!! You’re right there is something about tradition. School pictures fall into that category. I bought Ramona’s for the first time this year. Her hair was awful, but I couldn’t go another year without getting them.

  8. He is sooo cute. I’ve been back and forth on if we’ll buy the hospital photos. But after seeing these, I’m a lot more inclined to do it!

I love all your blog posts! Your babies are so sweet :) when I had Jayden (10+ years ago.. Eek!) my only option was the straight on facial pose. It was ridiculous and his hands were frantic as if throwing gang signs. But yeah, I bought them! Ha! Side note: are you going to be posting a DIY Christmas gift this year???

    • Amber says:

Thanks Kristy! I’m secretly obsessed with your photos and letters from George. They crack me up! You should make Jayden recreate his baby photo. That would be hilarious!

I doubt we will be posting DIY Christmas gifts since I don’t have a space to craft. (Plus I have no genius ideas up my sleeve this year. HA!) The Dare to DIY link party with gifts is up today http://decorandthedog.net/decorandthedog/2013/12/8/diy-dog-treat-jar-dare-to-diy You can probably find some good ideas there! I promise I won’t let you down next year!!
