Deck the Halls with Yarn (and food)??

Christmas 2014

I know most of you will read this after Christmas, but I would be really upset with myself if I didn’t document our first Christmas in the new house. I know everyone these days claims certain things are “the struggle.” Let me just fill you in that decorating and maintaining a Christmas tree with Beckett is the struggle. I decided to bail on all our Christmas decoration and DIY the entire tree (except the star).

Deck the halls

We started with old school popcorn garland that Ramona so lovingly strung while eating about half of it in the process. She was good for about a strand. Then she had more important things to do.

DIY Ornaments

We also strung some cranberries for more DIY food garland. (It’s a thing. Google it.) I was just going to make a ton of poms in red, white, and black. Then I had all this yarn and randomly decided to weave ornaments – an obvious conclusion.

Christmas 2014

I had some fresh garland left over from our Christmas tablescape, so it found its way to the mantel. I made the stockings 2 Christmases ago for Dare to DIY.

Christmas 2014

Fun fact we actually refer to our family as NARB – Nick, Amber, Ramona, Beckett – from time to time. We also name our group texts like that – shout out to JPAN and DEAN (yes we actually have more than 1 group text thread named because of its daily use). Anyway it was cool to see our initials and family nickname up there in glittery gold.

Christmas 2014

I cut the letters with my Silhouette. If you don’t have a machine, then order letters or heck a banner from the Bannerie. I would have just done that because her glitter paper is the perfect tone of gold, but that would have required more prep on my part. I’m giving you a whole year guys! Get those orders in for Christmas 2015!

Christmas 2014

Of course our vintage elves and Santa are centered among the NARB trees. Apparently I still can’t be bother to take the price string off Santa.

Christmas 2014

We went super simple with wrapping in postal paper and a yarn bow (because a giant thing of yarn lasts forever) and a tiny initial in glittery gold. I used tacky glue to make the yarn bow say in form and hot glue for the letter.

So there you have it friends, more simple and minimal content from the Wills. I’m not sure if you can thank/blame a style change or 2 child exhaustion, but Christmas 2014 is brought to you by the number 4 and some food decor, lots of yarn and the letters NARB.

Merry Christmas y’all!

I love all of the DIY stuff! After a month of having my tree up and no ornaments, I decided to go the quick and easy route and just made some finger knit garland and called it finished… Sometimes it just feels better to have it loo a little different than past years

I don’t know what it was about this year and just not having the desire/will power to finish up the tree! At least it wasn’t just me! I bet that garland was awesome! Hope you had a Merry Christmas!

Everything looks lovely! you know I love the pom poms….pom ornaments were on my list this year, but I never got around to them. Happy New Year, NARB!

  4. I love the way you wrapped the gifts! I hope to try out a few yarn crafts this year and will definitely use the extra to wrap gifts next year!

  5. Sure do love you NARBs! Your tree is stunning. I just keep thinking about what would happen if we put popcorn on our tree. omg… Indy and Buster would destroy it before Buddy the Elf even learns he’s human. Your stockings and fireplace are picture perfect. I’m glad you had such a lovely first Christmas in your new house! Peace & Blessings Wills!

Beckett did more damage to the popcorn garland than Faith and Sara did. The girls did eat it up while it was being made, but once it was on the tree they knew it was off limits. Hope you had a wonderful first Christmas at your place too! Merry Christmas Crowders!

  6. I love this tree. So very fun and homespun. And also chic, somehow.

I bought cranberries in November to string as garland. I just threw the bag of cranberries away. Unopened. So, you win.

Maybe next year? Or not. Whatevs.

  7. I can not even begin to tell you how much your Christmas tree is inspiring me this year. I have REALLY been wanting to string some cranberries and popcorn for ours too! Love all the natural elements you have going on and of course Ramona stringing long enough for that picture is awesome :)

  8. I love your woven ornaments! Your whole tree looked gorgeous. I think it’s the natural elements, but it really reminded me of the tree we decorated when I was a kid. Thanks for taking me back (although yours is infinitely more chic!)

I’m just gonna sing to you: have I told you lately that I love you? Something something something above you. You fill my heart with gladness, take away all my sadness. Something something that’s what you do!

    xo!!
