Raising Readers Back to School

Raising-Reader-Back-to-School-EditionIt’s time to go back to school. Excuse me while I continue to cry myself into a useless pile of snot. I cannot even begin to put my emotions about back to school in writing at this moment. One day my crazy will subside, and I can eloquently express all the feels while courageously aiding all the mothers of America with this difficult transition. (Clearly the crazy runs deep in me.)

In the meantime, let’s look at some great book choices for your kids about going back to school! Thus making me somewhat useful at this point.

Raising Readers Back to School (1 of 4)Ramona is in full Kindergarten prep. She’s acting like she was born for this. Everything in her life has led to this moment…wonder where she gets her dramatic tendencies. Kindergarten, Here I Come is a collection of poems about different experiences that await every sweet child at some point during the year – first day, field trip, etc. The Night Before Kindergarten is a spin on the classic Christmas poem except so much sadder for the parents. *Spoiler: your kids are growing up. You are the one crying the first day while they are basically having a party in their classroom with all these new friends.

What mom loves about it? Both books are under $3. I love that both are poems, because that’s a genre that doesn’t get read often. Rhyme is a huge concept in early literacy, so you can explore that while building up excitement over this life event.

Raising Readers Back to School (2 of 4)Beckett is doing the mother’s day out thing again, but let’s get excited about his school too. I Am Too Absolutely Small for School is a Charlie and Lola book. Lola is nervous about school, so Charlie reasons with her in the sneaky way that siblings do. This is great for those kids who are unsure of school.

What mom loves about it? You will actually enjoy reading this. It’s sweet and pretty funny without having sassy characters.

Raising Readers Back to School (4 of 4)I love sweet moments like this. Beckett is filling Ramona in on whatever important details she missed in her “reading” which in this case he feels the need to highlight the cookie page.

Shout out to all you first time Kindergarten moms! May we all just savor each moment with our babies before we get to the OMG-when-does-school-start-again phase.

Haha yeah I guess once one is already in school, it’s not as life altering!! We had meet the teacher and I had reallllly had to moment where I had to choke back some tears.

  2. I can’t believe she’s old enough for kindergarten! Stay strong! And thanks for the book recs :) I was thinking of doing a (bigger kid) book post this week, too. But now it will just look like I copied you, so I think I’ll use that as my excuse to have a glass of wine and watch TV instead of writing that tonight 😉

I can’t believe it either!! Give your book recs anyway! The world needs more! Although I totally get drinking and watching tv instead.
