I should have titled this post “cabinet hardware the hidden cost in building”. True not it’s not always necessary to spring for hardware during the build. However with our flat panel drawers and doors, it’s nearly impossible to open them without hardware. Thus let’s commence on some hardware purchasing shall we.
We knew we wanted brass throughout, but most brass options are online only. I ordered these brass pulls from Home Depot. I liked the shape. The finish was a little too 80’s brass though.
Of course we ordered the blogger’s brass staple – these Martha cup pulls from Home Depot. And sold. They have a great tone to the brass and are reasonably priced which is necessary because we have so. many. drawers.
We decided to put 2 pulls on our larger drawers. The downside to using these pulls is there’s only one size. Although these specific drawers are too large for a single cup pull regardless the size of the pull.
It wouldn’t be our build if there wasn’t a little drama. After we were high on the island countertop install, we walked in to find the hardware on the smaller drawers installed wrong. The pulls were much too close together. It was worse in person than the picture displays.
We had to explain that the pulls should be installed centered at the 1/4 and 3/4 of the drawer. Y’all, we don’t settle for anything. It really is exhausting for everyone. Seriously the pulls look so much better in their proper place. I’m so glad we don’t settle.
Just a little aside on our kitchen, no uppers = drawers galore. I’m getting old and can’t be bending down to grab things out of cabinets.
We did have to find hardware for doors too. We went with these brass goblet knobs. It completely changed the look for the living room built in. It’s going to look so good in there once we figure out a wallpaper, get furniture, and a rug…
The cup pulls and knobs look beautiful with the navy cabinets too! We are thrilled with how simple hardware pulled the cabinet spaces together. Everything looks more finished and ready to be used.
Anyone have any good hardware sources? We still haven’t purchased any towels bars, hooks, toilet paper holders and what not.
Ugh, every time I think you couldn’t top the look of your home, you do it again. So good! My bags are packed and ready by the way!

oh, yeah–the right spacing makes a huge difference! Love all the brass….it’s hard to find that line between 80’s brass and good brass sometimes, isn’t it? I still feel a little sheepish about my love of brass after we spent so much time de-brassifying all our bathrooms to sell the old house!
There is such a fine line between good brass and bad brass. Our last house had bad brass door handles, so I completely understand where you are coming from!

Oh you know us we are never ones to let things slide. I have no doubt there are lots of things worse than eye rolls happening from nearly every subcontractor with regards to the Wills house. We are nice clients but so much pickier than anyone else they’ve probably ever dealt with. We do give beer perks too, so there’s that. Obviously after the job is done, we don’t need mistakes due to intoxication happening. We already have enough sober ones to deal with.

Love your choices on the hardware but am even more taken with the fact that your cabinets are the FULL overlay style which makes the lines so much more crisp in the kitchen. Thank you Willcasa for the eye candy:)

First, what does “the FULL overlay style” mean re: the cabinets? I love your cabinets and I need to know what I need to know.
I want drawers too (I wrecked my knees in college lacrosse!).
The right brass is Key – and of course that silly carpenter should have just known better. Crazy.
I am thinking of pre-buying some stuff before we write the big checks – I am certain we will be hurting for cash at the end of our remodel! My fear is getting to the almost-finish-line and then getting sticker shock on hardware, barstools etc. (No one sees all the electrical and plumbing! haha) Those pulls sure pop on your island! That whole island is beyond.
Last – that cabinet line up in the other room is PERFECTION. Love the minimal knobs there.
Full overlay means the cabinet frame doesn’t show. This explains full overlay much better than I can attempt to! Hope that helps.
Pre-buying is smart. Little things add up and it always seemed like the bigger things were more expensive that expected. Prioritizing from the beginning is another smart step. We did not do a great job of that, so don’t follow our lead in any way on that front. 😉

I would get so fat during this build due to the fact I would eat Bluebell Ice Cream (WHICH WE DONT HAVE HERE!) every time there was drama.

Love your kitchen. We are getting shaker cabs and I was wondering why you decided to place hardware on perimeter vs middle of cab?
If the pulls were different, I might have considered the middle of the cabinet. Ours are pretty chunky and more like a filing cabinet pull, so it made more sense for them to be placed at the top. Some of the drawers are pretty skinny too, so the handle would have been smashed in there if it could have fit at all.
