But First Coffee: Then Total Randomness Ahead

Ramona and Beckett
If you were wondering what has been happening around here, well then here’s the post for you. A little bit personal. A little bit craftish. A whole lot of random. The weather has been beautiful and the grass is so lush. We have been playing outside. What else is one to do?!? I mean it’s the best way to avoid doing anything around here. Let’s sit outside while you 2 play with wheeled toys.

Beckett got a ybike for his birthday, and it is awesome. It rolls like an IKEA shopping cart. He’s like a wild man pushing that thing around.

YarnI’m avoiding this giant project that keeps changing for Ramona’s room. It is an idea that has warped like a million times since it’s conception. It’s going to be So. Much. Work. Also hope it doesn’t suck. Stay tuned for that.

Make sure to check out everyone’s Fall in Love room via #fallinloveroom and/or the links here.

Painting with RamonaConfession: I am a mom who hates to let her kids craft. All the mess. I picked up a little thrift store find on an outting with none other than Brynne (that ended in some tire slashing…not kidding). I decided since it was for Ramona’s room I would let her help with the painting. Obviously she was well on the way to blueing herself. Thank you Arrested Development for the many giggles over that today.

Don’t judge me for pairing of inappropriate humor with crafting with my child.

Sean Brock
We went to Chipotle’s Cultivate Festival Saturday. Ramona was very concerned we would miss seeing Sean Brock. She is obsessed with him after watching Mind of a Chef. He actually talked to her when we ate at Husk in Nashville, but she played the shy card. She was determined to chat it up this time. Yep she was still pretty shy.

Go buy his book Heritage that was released Tuesday. He has done incredible things for Southern food and seed preservation. Plus he’s super nice and an insane chef who is on the forefront of the shift in food culture that’s happening right now. I’ll geek out and admit I left feeling inspired.

That’s what’s happening around here. Hope we have some major progress to share on Ramona’s room next week. I’m finding I need nearly everything done before I share anything. I change my mind way too much for anyone else to follow along.

i am the same kind of mom when it comes to my kids crafting- can we craft with no mess and major control from me? thanks.
i want to come shop with you and brynne. and slash tires.
and i got invited to the chipotle christmas party with chris- wonder if sean will be there… but i doubt it!
can’t wait to see the yarn project!!! was so excited to get my pictures hung yesterday- that feels like progress.

Just let me hold your hand while you brush that paint on… :)

Who knows maybe Sean will be there? Even if he isn’t at least you know it will be awesome. Because Chipotle. I’m such a fan girl.

The big question here is will it be a yarn project in the end?!? What a twist!

  2. Does that y bike come in adult sizes? I like the random posts!

  3. Tire slashing!?!?! Oh and if he outgrows the ybike then he needs a wooden likeabike, my kids never needed training wheels thanks to that cool bike.

    • Amber says:

We have a balance bike, but Ramona just could not get into it. I’m not looking forward to teaching her to ditch the training wheels, but I also dread her riding a bike down our hill of a driveway.

  4. I totally understand about the hesitation to let your kids make a crafty mess. Our toddler does a lot of “art” at school, so that’s my excuse for not doing much at home with her in that department. But… I can’t wait to see what Ramona made! And the yarn….?

    • Amber says:

Bahaha I think I put my kids in school just so they can craft there! Every time I feel guilt about not letting her craft and I give in at let her. Things like glitter glued on the table or paint on the floor happen, and I’m reminded why child crafting = anxiety!

  5. My teak dining table has 30+ years of glitter embedded into its surface. Somehow the crayon and paint and marker oopses have mostly disappeared over the years. It still looks okay when I get around to putting some oil on it. I think K and I are going to do a bit of watercolor tomorrow.

    • Amber says:

Can I send Ramona over? 😉 Glitter is the worst. We always joke that no one told us having a girl meant signing up for eternal layers of glitter covering all our possessions.

  6. Gretchen says:

That’s a pretty crazy bike Beckett has there! So I don’t know what your giant project is for Ramona’s room, but I’m very excited about it. And overwhelmed on your behalf. If it involves that much yarn, it must be hard.

Nice to see you back in action with all of this randomness. Love that you talked bikes, kids crafting, and seed preservation all in one lovely post. Isn’t that how mommy brains work! BTW — I need you to post everyday. Seriously;)

  8. Brynne says:

Okay – I want to reschedule our thrifting trip sans tire-slashing and meth-head dumpster diving and fingers crossed for no more family emergencies in my life! That yarn picture is STILL making me crazy over those awesome colors together and that lucite rod… Mmmm! So good!

    • Amber says:

You are the only one that knows most of the thought process behind that!! Yes definitely need to reschedule our thrifting adventures!

  9. Jana says:

Can’t wait to see that project with the colorful yarn! Give us a hint!

    =D

Well I definitely would if I had any clue what was going on with that! As of this moment, we aren’t using the yarn anymore. It might change by tomorrow, so who knows.
