Fall in Love with Ramona’s Room

Ramonas RoomIt’s finally here. All the instagram sneak peeks and late nights have lead to this moment. RAMONA’S BIG GIRL ROOM!!! Despite my 6 week deadline for the Fall in Love series, this was more of a 4 day scramble. Time management is not part of our skill set.

Ramonas RoomThat lamp though. It makes me say, “I love lamp.” And mean it. It’s from our favorite shop Vintage Freak. (The birds above the bed are also from there.)

Ramona painted the art. I love them even after I had to clean the giant mess that was left behind.

Ramonas Room-3Remember when we bought this vintage Bertoia from the Nashville Flea? No you don’t because no one read our blog then. Looks good in green. Making us wonder what took us so long to spray paint.

Ramonas Room-14Mini gallery wall by her bed that definitely included our first family portrait and the subject of a hilarious post on hypothetical nonsense.
Ramonas Room-45

We did hang a chair (affiliate link). It’s so cute you can’t even get mad that it’s cliche. Most adorable award goes to Nick for crafting that tribal art. He knows the way to heart. Crafts, generating blog content, helping me when I procrastinate on deadlines, etc.

Ramonas Room-56

Now for the real reason why I’ve been exhausted and scrambling to make the deadline. I decided to make these drapes on Saturday night after I saw similar ones at ten over six. I bailed on 2 different projects for the window, and I could not talk myself out of this one. I knew it was going to be a crazy amount of work and the deadline. But look at them!! They scream Ramona’s big girl room! *Update: here’s the tutorial.

Ramonas Room-52Such a huge statement. They add such a great texture. It’s crazy in person.

Ramonas Room-58Add those insane drapes to an acrylic rod and some brass brackets (affiliate link). Baby you got yourself a window dressing. I got the rod from Nationwide Plastics. They ship, so next time you need to hang some drapes…

Ramonas Room-40One good thing about procrastination is my hummingbird hook was $15 on sale!! The cards posing as art are from a daddy + daughter morning at a Foreign & Domestic bake sale in Austin. Yet another reason to love my husband. He lets me sleep in and has coffee ready when I wake up.

Ramonas Room-5Ramonas Room-17Ramonas Room-4Ramonas Room-6Ramonas Room-13Ramona’s room still needs a few tweaks, but it’s a real room now! Things have a place which means it will never be dirty again. Right? RIGHT?!?

    • Amber says:

Thanks Cassie! After we painted the chair bright green, I was thinking I wish I would have done that with the bed. I hate to risk losing the vintage look though. Maybe on her next room makeover. You know her teen one. BAHAHA. Oh that actually makes me sad.

  2. Are you kidding me with those amazing curtains!?! I love them! Looks so amazing with the hanging chair. Adore the entire room.

  3. OMG – GET OUT!! This is absolutely spectacular. I love it all!! That lamp totally had me at hello too! I LOVE that curtain. So Ramona and so you!! What an amazing and adorable room. I love that chair in green too. And are those diamond shaped chalk? The bed looks amazing. I love all the accessories and of course the tribal art and that perfectly styled corner with the hanging chair is awesome 😉 I can’t wait to see it in person!!

    • Amber says:

You are going to love it so much more in person!! Waiting for you to come and nudge everything! 😉

Those are gem shaped crayons as if it could get any cooler!!

  4. sarah dorsey says:

wow!!! those draperies are insanely awesome!! love seeing the bertoia chair here (I was hoping to find one the other week) such a great find!! every detail is perfect!

    • Amber says:

Thank you! I couldn’t believe it when we found it. It caused us to overload the car but still worth it! One day we will have to meet up in Nashville and tackle the flea together!

  5. Must. see. more. of. those. curtains. SO COOL.

    • Amber says:

Girl they are insane. Lots of work but pretty simple. I make no promises on when I’ll finish the other panel and write the tutorial but eventually friend! :)

  6. I feel like this room is Schoolhouse Electric kiddo style…and I freaking love it!!!! Seriously beautiful & perfect!!!

  7. Amazing!!! Those curtains are insane and I love them!!!! I also love that lamp. Awesome job!

Oh, I fell in love alright. Hot damn. This is fabulous. I’ve come to expect nothing less from you Wills. I’m just dying over every last detail!!! Those curtains are 100% worth the effort – they are amazing! And the bed and the lamp and the chair and the perfectly styled accessories… DIVINE!

  10. Amazing room makeover! Those curtains, what a project! but you’re absolutely right, they’re such a statement! And PS I definitely need an acrylic curtain rod with brass mounts. Thank you for sharing the sources!

  11. Her room looks so great! Like everyone else, I can’t get over those curtains!

  12. Are you kidding me with those drapes!!! I die. Love this room so much. Such a perfect space for a little girl:)

  13. Lolly says:

Please say you will give a tutorial on how you did the curtains!

  14. Anu says:

Such a great space for a little girl. Love all the vintage details and colour!

  15. Bethe says:

Oh my word, THAT is adorable! And I love how you framed the baby dress – I’m guessing that was hers? I may have to steal that idea!

    • Amber says:

Thanks Bethe! I just smashed that shirt in the frame and it stuck. So easy! I’m a baby clothes hoarder, so it’s nice to see one out of the storage tub!

  16. Allison Lawson says:

LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Those curtains are so amazing!! And I bet she is going to love sitting in that hanging chair!

  17. Holy SSSSSSSHHHHHHHH.

I mean, seriously, I just said that out loud. This room is amazing. Not surprised of course, because you ooze awesomeness. Those curtains are seriously the best thing ever. And I”m exhausted just looking at them.

Is that artwork made from knitting needles? I Love that. And the green chair. And the headboard. And the curtains. And the little fox. And the rug.

I love it all. Pinning the shhhhhhh out of this.

  18. That is one stylish room for one stylish kid! Those curtains were totally worth your time and stress. That gallery wall is adorable too. And that tribal art. You guys win the internet today.

  19. Gretchen says:

Whoa. Okay, so Ramona’s room is incredibly easy to fall in love with. That gallery wall is the most charming thing I’ve ever seen. And I’m so impressed with the curtain I had to call Dave over to look at it, and that doesn’t happen very often :). Amazing job!

  20. Oh my goodness! I love everything about this room! It is precious and quirky and adorable and fabulous! I want to live here and have magical dreams. I think this room would totally help get my creative juices flowing!

    • Amber says:

Thank you! I did consider making Ramona sleep upstairs so I could sleep in there the night I finished it. She wouldn’t let me though.

  21. So much to love! Can we talk about how awesome those drapes turned out!?! For reals, they are my favorite thing. So many great, unique touches! I love her room!!!!! xoxo

  22. Those drapes. I got seriously wide-eyed when I scrolled down to that image. Wowza.

    • Amber says:

Haha thanks Rachel! They are so fun. I wasn’t sure how good they would turn out until I had the bottom row finished. Then I knew they were going to be good!

  23. GORGEOUS!!! Now i need curtains like that too…for my own room!!! I love everything. Beautiful!!!

  24. Her room is so fun! It looks incredible! I absolutely love those curtains! They are crazy, but a good kind of crazy.

  26. okay…this is gorgeous!! I’ve been wanting to reveal my daughter’s new headboard. But i have so much accessorizing to do. I had the same vintage birds, I sold them on Etsy a while back, makes me wish I had kept them! truely lovely. xo julia

    • Amber says:

Thank you! We’ve had those birds for probably over a year just hanging out waiting to be used! I told Nick the other day if we didn’t have this series deadline we would have had a lot of finished things and no accessorizing therefore no blog updates! That last step always seems to loom for far too long!

  27. Nichole S. says:

Love it all…textured rug – check. Brass birdies – check. Girlie curtains – check. J. Crew kids COUTURE dress with Peter Pan collar and rhinestone accents – check. Nona’s room is uber hipster chic!!! Good luck getting her out of the house now:)

    • Amber says:

Haha thanks! Well she stayed the night at my sister’s last night, so the promise of a fun night with her cousins will lure her out.

  28. WHAT. Why are you always consistently so brilliant. This is not creepy at all, but I totally want to be a five-year-old girl just so I can live in that room. I’ll have to settle for letting my future daughter-in-law use it for now. But those CURTAINS!!!

  29. You know this room is perfect right!! I couldn’t possibly love it any more than I do. Perfect!

  30. Oh my goodness. The green bed, the brass birds, the hanging chair, the drapery rod, THE DRAPES. These are a few of my favorite things, la la la la. What are the drapes even made of of?! I know my way around a sewing machine and you just blew my mind, girl. Such a fun, beautiful room!

  31. Hi, it’s me. You know, the not-blogger. Ramona’s room is, to quote Hilary Duff, WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF! I’m very impressed at your 4-day scramble. The design is faultless. I am dying over the curtains. Can I drape myself in them?? Maybe I could do a spin off of your tutorial about how to make it into a dress haha. But fo real, nice job Willizz!

  32. I love it so much! The old school desk as a nightstand is charming. And the artwork reminds me of my great grandma in the goodway!

    • Amber says:

Aw thank you! The school desk was plan B after my mid century Goodwill find was being weird about stain. It all worked out though. The desk was a much better solution for her anyway!

  33. Liz H says:

I keep coming back to this room because it. is. INSANE! I adore! The curtains are what my innermost dreams are made of, and I beg for a DIY on the knitting needle tribal art! Seriously one of my fave blog posts of all time. Such an amazing space for a little girl.

    • Amber says:

Thank you so much! I am planning on having the posts for the tribal art and the drapes up after the beginning of the year! There will be a few fun tweaks in here too, so stay tuned!

  35. Ashlee MacDonald says:

Wow! An amazing room! I love all the details. I have wanted to put a hanging chair in my little girl’s room forever. I’m wondering how much the wants actually swings? My space wouldn’t allow for any swinging motion. It doesn’t look like you have much room either???

    • Amber says:

I thought if I put it with as little swinging room as possible then maybe they wouldn’t get too crazy swinging around. It worked! It almost functions as more of a rocking chair that Ramona just swings slightly as she reads.
